Music Information Retrieval 2008

Michael presented a demonstration of "Using MusicXML 2.0 to Create Symbolic Music Data Sets" at this conference in Philadelphia on September 18, 2008. The demonstration illustrated how web and personal data sets in Finale, Sibelius, PDF, and other formats could be converted into MusicXML data sets for future work in music information retrieval.

Digital Editing between Experiment and Standardization

Michael presented a talk on "MusicXML 2.0: Advances in Music Preparation and Distribution" at this conference in Paderborn, Germany on December 6, 2007. The talk focused on how MusicXML 2.0 meets the requirements for a music editorial data format. It was hosted by the Edirom project. as a follow-up to last year's conference in Mainz on Digital Media and Music Editions. Proceedings from the conference are now available, with papers in both German and English.

Michael presented a talk on "Lessons from the Adoption of MusicXML as an Interchange Standard" at the XML 2006 conference in Boston on Wednesday, December 6, 2006. The presentation slides are also available.

Digitale Medien und Musikedition

Michael presented a talk on "MusicXML: Methodology and Technical Methods" at a colloquium on Digitale Medien und Musikedition (Digital Media and Music Editions) at the Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Literatur (Academy of Sciences and Literature) in Mainz, Germany in November 2006. The colloquium was attended by senior representatives from the critical music editions that are coordinated by the Academy.

WEDELMUSIC 2003 and MUSICNETWORK 2003

Michael presented Recordare's poster session on "Using MusicXML for File Interchange" at this annual conference on Web Delivering of Music. Both the paper and the slides are now available online. Several of the papers at the MUSICNETWORK workshops made use of MusicXML in their work.

WEDELMUSIC 2002 and MUSICNETWORK 2002

Michael gave a presentation on "MusicXML and MUSICNETWORK" at this event. There was a lively exchange of ideas with critical edition publishers, MusicXML developers, and other people working on music representations.

MAX 2002 - Musical Application Using XML

MAX 2002 featured three presentations using MusicXML, including Recordare's paper on "MusicXML in Practice: Issues in Translation and Analysis."

O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) 2002

Recordare and Project XEMO presented back-to-back Birds of a Feather (BOF) sessions on MusicXML and Project XEMO. Our presentation on MusicXML: An Open Format for Music Notation is available in PDF format.

XML 2001

Michael's paper on MusicXML: An Internet-Friendly Format for Sheet Music was presented at the XML 2001 conference. The XML 2001 Conference Proceedings web site is no longer accessible, so the paper is now available on our site. Music Information Retrieval 2000

Michael presented a poster session on Representing Music Using XML at this international symposium held in Plymouth, Massachusetts in October 2000. Both the abstract and poster material are available.
