A Complete MusicXML 2.0 Example

Scott Joplin's Elite Syncopations

Here is a complete MusicXML example of a rag by Scott Joplin. As a complete piano piece, this example shows a lot of MusicXML 2.0's features, including how multi-voice, multi-staff parts are represented.

This example was prepared from the Dover reprint of the edition published in 1912 by John Stark & Son. We scanned the score with SharpEye Music Reader, edited it, and saved as a MusicXML file. We then transferred the MusicXML file into Finale 2005, performed some additional edits, and then saved out all the different file formats (MusicXML, PDF, MIDI, and MP3). The MusicXML 2.0 file was saved using our Dolet 4 for Finale plug-in.

Here are the different formats available, letting you see and hear the piece as well as how it is represented in MusicXML:

  • The MusicXML 2.0 version (514K).
  • The Compressed MusicXML 2.0 version (19K).
  • The PDF version.
  • The MIDI version .
  • The MP3 version (2.8M).
  • The Myriad Music Plug-in version:
